Evening Secret Blog – Polarized Fishing Glasses

leave a comment »

If you’re an angler and don’t wear polarized fishing glasses I have a question for you. Why not? You really should. Polarized glasses should be as much a part of your fishing as your rod and reel are. I’m being serious here. The only way that I can see that this wouldn’t be the case is if you’re primarily a bank fisherman who still fishes. Other than that, you need to be wearing polarized glasses for fishing. The two really do fit together like pea’s and carrots, as Forrest Gump would say…

Evening Secret Blog – Why Night Fishing?

leave a comment »

I love night fishing. Most of the times it?s because I don?t get to go out and fish during the day because of my work, but now there?s more to it than just the convenience. I?ve observed that night fishing offers you the same conditions as daytime, but with generally better results. Sometimes I can swear the fishing conditions are even better during the night, since there are fewer anglers to compete with for a good fishing spot, and less noise as well.I?ve also come to realize that when you …

Evening Secret Blog – Steelhead Fly Fishing, Steelhead Flies Tips and Information

leave a comment »

I have found that some steelhead flies work better on some rivers but don?t work so well on other rivers. Several instances come mind that helps to point out this fact. One happened about 15 years ago when I was in Northwest Washington State fly-fishing the Stillaguamish River for steelhead. My friend Gordon who lives in the area and I arrived at the mouth of the North Fork early one morning and I asked him, ?Well what fly should I start out with this morning?? His reply was ?try this one? as h…

Whether you plan to saltwater or freshwater fish, you need to think about what your priorities and what you consider the ‘perfect fishing trip’. Salmon fishing in Alaska or Bonefishing in the Florida Keys are obviously totally different in destination, type of tackle, weather gear…etc. One of the first things you must do to plan a great fishing trip is to identify your priorities. You need to be more specific than just saying you want great fishing. Great fishing may mean different thing…

Evening Secret Blog – Taking my 2 1/2 Year Old Daughter Fishing, or should I say Rock Throwing?

leave a comment »

Have any of you had the pleasure of taking your 2 1/2 year old daughter fishing for the first time? Well actually, it was a rock throwing trip more than a fishing trip, but it showed me what love is. Who knew that a little girl throwing rocks into a flowing river would have anything to do with love?I find it so ironic that I used to think I knew what love was. That was before Cameron came into this world though. Since she’s been around, things have changed. Hell, I was married for 7 years a…

Evening Secret Blog – Making Fishing Lures: Basic Tools Required – Part 1

leave a comment »

Lets start with the basics, you need a clean solid work surface such as a bench, table, or desk, you will need a vise which will hold the various lures for drilling, filing, bending, and other operations. Almost any bench vise of good size will serve the purpose. Unless you have a permanent workbench, this vise doesn’t have to be fastened to the table or desk until needed.

A small anvil is also useful if you plan to make many metal lures or parts for such lures. It is used for cutting, bendin…

Bill Fishman can’t bet his beloved New York Jets in this year’s AFC title game because Coach Herman Edwards’ crew got left at the runway gate, leaving him with little choice but to take a “bus” to the 2006 Super Bowl in Detroit next month. Trouble is, Fishman, ProCappers.com’s 2005 football handicapping king, doesn’t know if it will stall in Denver en route to Motown. He’s pretty sure about one thing, though: the Carolina Express will run out of gas in Seattle on Sunday in the NFC championship…

Evening Secret Blog – Fishing And The Outdoors – Northwest Montana Is For You

leave a comment »

The fishing in Northwest Montana is without question the most scenic and beautiful fishing that I’ve ever experienced. Oh, and the trout fishing is as good as anywhere I’ve ever fished with the exception of Alaska, but as you’ve probably heard, Alaska is in a class all by itself. Northwest Montana offers some fabulous fishing. I grew up in central Pennsylvania and caught a lot of trout there, but Pennsylvania’s trout fishing can’t hold a candle to Northwest Montana. And the scenery, although…

All will catch fish at some time or another. Fishing baits usually weigh from ? to an ounce to three ounces. The most popular weight preferred by the majority of bait casters is the 5/8-ounce bait, while the average is between ? and 3 quarters of an ounce. Baits can either be used as a whole or cut in…

Evening Secret Blog – Personal Pontoon Boats – River Fishing

leave a comment »

Do you enjoy strapping on your waders, grabbing you ultralight gear and heading out to your favorite river for a morning of fishing? I sure do. As a matter of fact there is no other type of fishing I enjoy more than fishing in the current of a flowing river. Sometimes the river only lets an angler travel so far though. I know on my favorite river, I can wade about a mile upstream and 2 miles downstream, and that’s it. Because of the overgrowth along the bank and deep water, I simply can’t t…

Evening Secret Blog – Fishing Rods – The Weapon Of Choice For All Good Anglers

leave a comment »

With more and more great companies producing great fishing rods today, finding the right rod for you could easily be a daunting task to say the least. While you will have to take into account the type of fishing you plan on doing, there are many different rods that you can purchase to do the job. While we all know that ice fishing rods would not be practical for bass fishing on a lake in the spring or fall, so too would the impracticality of using a deep sea rod for a cold February day in an ice…
